Twin Tia Mowry flies solo as she stars on The CW hit The Game. Her fans have followed her since stardom in the 90s and today she has an even bigger following. Tween twin Sister no more, Tia Mowry takes on The Game and any way you cut it, she's a winner.

The Star Scoop:

What have you been up to lately? How are things going for you?

Tia Mowry:

Well, actually, my life's pretty busy. I've been finding myself really trying to take time out, you know, for myself, my family. But it's all good because I'm doing what I love to do right now, which is act. I'm working on a show, called The Game and I'm having fun on that. I'm also working on a few projects with my sister as well, my sister is Tamera Mowry. So I'm really happy with what is going on in my career right now. I'm getting a little into producing, doing projects like a Disney movie with my sister, but then you know, also, I'm just living life. I think it's been going pretty well, really busy. Meeting after meeting, going to work every day, but I'm not complaining at all.

The Star Scoop:

The Game is one of the first times fans have seen you separately [from your sister].

Mowry:

It's very interesting. I almost see it as like, it's a blessing, but then it's a challenge at the same time. It's really difficult for society, I guess, the business, the entertainment world is what I'm referring to, for them to see twins do separate projects. Tamera and I, we've always worried if that would ever be a challenge in our careers. We are individuals now, we've grown into two different people, but we're still sisters, best friends, and we're still close. My sister, you know, she was on Strong Medicine, and now I'm on The Game. So, it's a blessing in the sense that I believe we will have longer careers if we do projects separately, as well as projects together. I really feel that our careers will last longer if we focus on being individuals as well. The challenge is that my sister is amazing, and I love working with her. If I had a choice, I'd work with my sister for the rest of my life, I would, because I love working with her. We amazingly have natural chemistry, whereas, when you're doing another project in which my sister's not involved, you have to work on that chemistry. You have to work harder. When I work with my sister, it's my best friend, and it's like going to a playground every day. It kind of reminds me more of, I'm working, instead of when I work with my sister, it's like I'm playing. It's definitely challenging and interesting at the same time, but it's also fun because, like I said, we're individuals, and I do like working by myself. I've been able to do such different topics.

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about your character on The Game [Melanie Barnett] and how you've been able to get into that character.

Mowry:

I play Melanie Barnett, a very intellectual woman who is not really used to compromising, she's going to med school. She wants to be a doctor but she is dating a football player, and her character is all about her discovering this world and learning to compromise in her relationship. I basically loved this role and wanted to become a part of Melanie Barnett's life because I find myself in real life, a lot like her. I did go to Pepperdine University, I have a boyfriend that I'm constantly supporting and I would have to say, making compromises for. But I have a cousin that's in the NFL and I was able to look at his life and what he goes through to help me identify with the character even more. So that's kind of like how I prepared for it. I prepared for it in the sense that, I would see what was going on with my cousin and his world, and then I sort of made it my own experiences because I can identify with the character a lot because she is headstrong, but in order for a relationship to work, you do have to make some sacrifices and compromise. What I love about this character and the challenge that this character is, is that she has to find her own identity. I think a lot of women who are dating men of high status, or even not of high status - women tend to leave their own identities. They're the mom, they're the cook, and they think that's all they're good for. We're not. We have so many other colors to us. We're very smart women, and a lot of the time, women loose a bit of too much of themselves when they get into a committed relationship. So, that's the challenge that I have with this character, and that's what I really want to show with this character, that, you know, it is cool to compromise, but still keep your own identity.

The Star Scoop:

You and your sister have been in this business since you were young. [Fans] still see you on the Disney Channel. How do you feel being in that position of being a role model?

Mowry:

I definitely feel that I have to watch my actions more, but I don't mind that, because I strongly believe in positive energy. I strongly believe in being an example but then I also believe that acting is acting as well. But everything that I do take on, I'm always thinking about, oh God, what would my fans think. Oh, God, would it be okay if they saw me in this light? I'm always consciously aware of what my fans would think. What you see is what you get. I value being an example. I value being a positive source. I really, really believe that it's important for us to be good examples for young women out there because, television is a huge outlet for people to look up to you and model after. I'm a psychology major, and I study behavior. We become who we are by modeling certain behaviors. And, if you really look up to a person, you're gonna model their behavior. But I am constantly aware of that, and I don't mind being a role model. I like it.

The Star Scoop:

Since [Sister Sister], how have you grown and changed as a person?

Mowry:

I would have to say that I have changed and grown as a person in the sense that I would have to be true to myself. If I feel that what I'm doing is right, then I'm gonna do it, no matter what anybody else, you know, thinks. Or, if I feel that I'm being conflicted by something, I'm gonna listen to my mind and my heart. I would have to say that's how I've changed. When I was younger, I used to always do what everybody thought of me. I'd always do like, what they're thinking of me, whether it was good or bad. But as I have gotten older, you know, I am a woman now, and a lot of the roles that I'm gonna take on, it's going to be what women go through. When I was fourteen years old, fourteen years old shouldn't be saying, you know, the D word or whatever. As you get older, you still have to emulate real life. But I still believe that as long as you emulate real life still in a positive approach, it can be good. I still do projects that I am constantly aware of what my fans are thinking, but I'm not too much involved in that, where I'm making decisions on what other people [think], but I'm making it based on what I feel, you know what I mean?

The Star Scoop:

Has The Game given you an opportunity to get a new audience?

Mowry:

I really, really do. It's so funny. I always tell people at my meetings, a publicist or whatever, I always say I'm a special case because I have fans six years old, or maybe even four - I ran into a fan that was four years old the other day - all the way up till thirty-four, maybe even higher. I think that's really cool, because I have a lot of colors to me. I would love to say I have new fans because when I was on Sister Sister, I was fourteen, but now I'm twenty-eight, and my fans have grown up with me. My fans who watched me on Sister Sister can now watch me on The Game, because they're my age, and they're gonna relate to The Game. But then I also still have fans who never even watched because they were too young, they're eight years old now, and they're catching on to Sister Sister. I do believe that I have a new set of fans, and then I still have the same fans, they're older now. With the new set of fans, I guess are the people that never even watched and now they're watching me on The Game. I think it's really cool that I'm able to have fans all different types of ages and I have an outlet that they can watch that from. My fans who are eight years old to sixteen can watch Sister Sister and then my fans who are sixteen or twenty-eight or thirty-four can now watch The Game. They may be too old to watch Sister Sister right now. I feel very blessed.

The Star Scoop:

Is [TV] where you're happy to stay or is film something you'd like to get into a bit more?

Mowry:

I do well with a challenge, I believe. And, I'm not saying that I feel like I've conquered TV, but I've been doing TV all my life, ever since I was fourteen, and I would like to get my feet wet in feature films. I did do Hot Chicks with Rob Schneider with my twin sister and I did a movie called The American Standards which was an independent film. I would like to go there. And that's one of the main reasons why I did take on The Game as well, because the character is a woman, she's an adult, she goes through a lot of experiences that bold women go through, and I would like to use this and take it and maybe be there one day. I would love to do feature films. That is definitely something that I would like to see myself doing.

The Star Scoop:

Besides taking roles individually, what else can you do to set yourself apart [from your sister]?

Mowry:

The coolest thing is, is that my sister and I, we're very real people, and we like to let things organically happen. What we do is, we're just who we are. My sister has her own life, she has her boyfriend, she has her set of friends. She goes out to her own set of events, you know, and I go out to my own set of events, like, carpet events because we have different likes. We're very much alike, but we're very different as well. So, we can just be who we are, and be true to ourselves. If Tamera wants to go to an event that I don't want to go to, that I don't relate to, she'll go to [it]. So we just have to continue to be true ourselves - which we are: individuals. That's basically what we're doing now. We're just letting the press, letting the entertainment world know that we aren't attached at the hip. Tamera can do what she wants to do on her own, and I can do what I want to do on my own. And when it's time to come together, we come together.

The Star Scoop:

Do you have time to work on other projects [besides The Game]?

Mowry:

I kind of have to make time. Like, my sister and I are going to do Twitches 2 and we're figuring that out right now. We're hoping that we're gonna do it in June, because that's the only time I have to do it, because we're finishing the show in March, and I need some type of break, off. And then we're working on another movie for Lifetime that they're tying to crank out as well. So, I try to take like a project at a time. It's all about strategizing and finding the right time to do a project. But the coolest thing is, that where there's a will, there's a way, and it is possible, but it is difficult, to try to work everything around. Even when my sister and I did Twitches [the] first movie for Disney, my sister was filming Strong Medicine. She would have to fly back and forth from Canada, back to L.A. If you love something, it's like, you would do anything, and we love it. This is all we know.

The Star Scoop:

Recently we've been talking with [other stars] about college. You mentioned that you went to Pepperdine. What was your college experience like and why was that important?

Mowry:

Oh my God. My college experience, I have to say, was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I grew up with my mom, who is an amazing woman who says the key to success is an education. She said that's where it starts first, is being educated. Especially as a woman. It was important to me because, I think this is a good example, I really want to say this for the kids out there: I already kinda knew what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to act, and I was already making money, but I still went to college because it's not really just all about figuring out what you want to do with your life, it's all about experience, and the experience teaches you, it helps you become who you are as a person. It teaches you about culture, how you should interact with the world, and with your surroundings. Because you're going on campus, you're meeting all these new people from all around the world, and that's how it's gonna be when you're on your own. It was a great vehicle for me, to I guess, help me define who I was as person. I think it's important to go to college because it teaches you about deadlines, it teaches you about plagiarism, it teaches you the common principles that you need for life. It was challenging, it wasn't easy. You're only a failure when you stay down. But you're not a failure if you fall. You're not a failure if you're struggling. And it was hard. We would have to be on set. When they'd say cut, I'd would have to go in my room and type up my papers and then when I was done at school, I'd have to go home and study. But, if you put your mind to something, and I hate to sound very cliche, but it's true! If you put your mind to something, it can happen. Never say no.

The Star Scoop:

Is there anything that you feel should be in an interview with you that you want your fans to see?

Mowry:

I guess I can say this: Sometimes we get so caught up in life, whether you are working, whether you're so caught up in your problems, whether you're so caught up in your relationship, you know, I think it's very important for you to take time out for yourself. Whether it's getting a massage, whether it's taking a bubble bath at home and putting on your favorite song, or whether it's sitting down in your living room or in your room and reading your favorite book that you've already read, you know what I mean? I just think that it is very important for us to allow our mind to focus on ourselves for a minute because if you're not healthy, and if your mind and your body and you spirit is not healthy, how can you enjoy what you have? Because sometimes you don't realize what you have until you walk away from it. I just feel like, if you're struggling with work, struggling in your relationship, if you're struggling with - whatever, your finances, sometimes it's good to just step back and really analyze yourself and figure out what's going with you. Reward yourself. Regroup. That's very important for people to do. Take a step back and you just breathe, you know?

Pregnant And Showing

Is it just my old fashioned ways, or is maternity clothing getting too revealing? I remember maternity clothing being designed to remove the emphasis from a protruding midriff. If you view the maternity clothing catalogues and maternity clothing magazines, you find clothing that does just the opposite. Popular maternity clothing seams to have gone to the extreme in making the statement that being pregnant is beautiful.

Being pregnant is a beautiful thing. The thing that I mention is the experience of being pregnant. Pregnant women are beautiful, but I would rather not look at their midriff area. My home interior is beautiful, but I do not put it in view for the whole world to see. A woman’s face is the most beautiful part of her, so let us design maternity fashion clothing that showcases her face.

Demi Moore posed pregnant and nude for a magazine that I will not mention. Since then things have been going down hill. There has been a pregnant woman shown on television, who pulls up her sweatshirt showing her midriff, offering advertising placed there in exchange for super bowl tickets. Call me crazy, but I prefer a little modesty.

If you were to do a maternity clothing market research, I think that the majority of mothers to be would agree with me.

I suppose one should not be shocked by the design of maternity clothing. Once you take a look at other clothing designs for women, maternity clothing matches up pretty well.

If I were a judge in the fashion police courtroom, I would sentence a lot of offenders to wearing robes. You look at pictures of people portraying biblical times, and they all wear robes. They may not be fashionable, but at least they are not offensive. I think robes might be a good solution to the problem of offensive clothing. Hawaiian women have been wearing them for years, and they are beautiful.

Things You Must Know Before Becoming Pregnant

As soon as a baby starts to grow inside you, there is no way to take a break from being pregnant until the day of the delivery. It is for this reason that many mothers want to make their bodies as fit and healthy as possible such that they are very prepared for hosting the baby inside them.

1. Harmful Toxins

The major toxins that you have to be worried about include those from cigarettes or from alcohol, but you should also watch out for medications that you take that have the ability to cross the placenta.

2. Medications Also, Conditions

If you take any kind of medication, speak to your medical provider about this and ask if the medication you take is safe during pregnancy. There may be an equivalent of this drug you are taking that is safe to use during pregnancy. On the other side of the coin, there may be no alternative available and you might have to switch treatments from a medication to something else.

3. Lifestyle

A safe environment is the chief concern for every mothers child. If you are someone who has a stressful job that requires you to be on your feet much of the day, or work long hours, then consider taking a maternity leave. Men are also elidgable for time off, although this is not as extensive as the time off that a women is given. You might also consider a new, less demanding job such as a sideways move within your own organization or a new job altogether. In any case, if you do change jobs be sure that you do not lose any maternity benefits.

4. Planning Ahead Pays Off

Pregnancy is rarely a calm and tranquil ride. Planning ahead can greatly reduce fatigue and stress levels caused by immediate lifestyle changes. Planning ahead really does pay off.

Best Tips On Getting Pregnant

The best tips on getting pregnant include understanding your reproductive cycle, understanding conception positions and paying attention to your overall health. Getting pregnant and pregnancy is a wonderful event that is complex, satisfying and exciting. Here are seven best tips on getting pregnant:

1. Know your most fertile time - generally, ovulation occurs about 14 days before your next period begins. So if your cycle is a 28-day one, that could make day #14 your most fertile (day #1 is the first day that your last period began). If yours is a 30-day cycle, day #16 could be the time to go for it.

2. Track your basal body temperature - you'll need an inexpensive basal thermometer to chart the slight elevations in your body temperature upon awakening each day that signal your fertile time.

3. Watch for cervical mucus - this can be one of the best tips on getting pregnant since ovulation causes a change in the appearance and consistency of cervical mucus. By checking yourself each day, you'll be able to see the 'egg-white-like' vaginal discharge that indicates ovulation and fertile time.

4. Have sex using the missionary position - the time-proven 'man-on-top' position works with gravity to encourage semen flow toward the uterus to maximize the chance of a sperm uniting with the egg and causing conception. One of the related best tips on getting pregnant is -- after ejaculation, the woman can remain on her back with her legs bent a few minutes to further maximize semen flow toward the uterus.

5. Eliminate smoking and alcohol - not only will doing so benefit your health, when you do become pregnant, you'll not expose the developing fetus to the harmful effects of smoking and alcohol.

6. Take the best vitamin/mineral/nutritional supplement you can find - taking one of the cheap one-a-day vitamins is probably a waste of time and money. Vitamins and minerals are just the beginning. Taking a high-quality, broad-spectrum nutritional supplement helps fill in the dietary gaps that everyone will have. The body needs and will use nutrients such as amino acids, antioxidants, bioflavanoids, neuronutrients, enzymes and other nutrients such as L-Carnosine, alpha lipoic acid, acetyl L-Carnitine and so on.

7. Adopt a healthy lifestyle - this is one of the most important best tips on getting pregnant. Healthy living includes having a sensible diet with nutritional supplements, adequate quality sleep, managing stress, reasonable exercise and weight management.

And finally, just relax and enjoy your partner. Trying too hard is not one of the recommended best tips on getting pregnant.

Your desire to become pregnant and having that special child will have even more significance to you if it means you'll be taking better care of yourself and your partner. Not only does that mean a more healthy you, it also means you'll increase the chances of having a healthier baby.

Honey, I Am Not Pregnant, We Will Have To Keep Trying

Many couples have children as soon as they look at each other in a certain way, or so it seems. Lots of couples do have problems conceiving children. There are several possible reasons for this and several possible solutions to the problem.

Gone are the days of Britain's Henry VIII who chopped off his wives' heads if they failed to produce a child within a year. Nowadays people realize that this is a difficulty that is a shared one. If specialists find that one of the partners' reproductive system is not working as it should then that person will need substantial support from their partner.

Most men do not have the Henry VII approach. Most will be willing to have tests done to determine a sperm count and to check on the activity of the sperm. This is usually the first step in determining the reason for lack of conception of a child because production of the sperm sample is very simple and certainly does not require invasive surgery.

Sperm counts can sometimes be increased by hormone supplements. Be aware that increasing testosterone levels will also cause increased aggressiveness in social situations. I knew a guy once in this situation and all his workmates breathed a sigh of relief when he announced his wife was pregnant.

Investigating the female reproductive system is much more complicated. That's why there are gynaecologists for women and no equivalent for men. I am not going to go into the many vagaries of the menstrual cycle here. Following the advice of a gynaecologist will help many women to become pregnant.

There are other alternatives even after the specialist's advice hasn't worked. Test-tube babies are very common. I used to teach a teenager who was the UK's first test-tube baby, she was just like every other girl in the class.

Eggs are removed from the woman's ovaries and fertilized with her partner's sperm, usually in flat petri dishes, rather than test-tubes. One of the fertilized eggs is then placed inside the woman's uterus, where it will hopefully attach itself and develop normally. The rest of the fertilized eggs may be frozen, in case of failure the first time.

If the man's sperm count or activity cannot be raised the couple could have a baby using sperm from a donor. Couples may also find a surrogate mother, either to host the fertilized egg, or to provide the egg to be fertilized by the male partner's sperm.

In short there are many routes out of this common predicament that a loving couple can use to have the children they have set their hearts on.

When Can You Get Pregnant?

If you are planning to get pregnant in the near future, you may be wondering when exactly it is that you can get pregnant. If you happen to be contemplating these issues, you are definitely on the right track to pregnancy! Let us discuss the biology of the female body in greater detail so as to understand when exactly you can get pregnant.

After the age of puberty, a typical woman has a month-long menstrual cycle. The main explicit visible sign of the aforementioned monthly cycle is the presence of menstruation, but this is far from all that happens inside your body. You can get pregnant as soon as you have started experiencing this monthly pattern.

During each monthly cycle, your body will, subtly and carefully, build a lining of blood vessels and nutrients in your uterus. This is a careful introductory preparation for the time when you actually do get pregnant. Your body does not know when that will happen, so it prepares thoroughly and consistently each and every month.

In all probabilities, you can get pregnant when the lining of the uterus is ready. It is precisely at this point that your ovaries release an egg into your uterus. This is the right time for you to get pregnant since everything is perfectly aligned. Should you have an intercourse at this time in your monthly cycle, you would stand a good chance of getting pregnant. This stage is called “ovulation” during which the egg is being released into your uterus.

If you don’t get pregnant during your ovulation stage, the egg eventually dies and the lining of your uterus becomes too old. At this point, your body sheds the lining and the egg in order to start all over again. This stage is called menstruation, during which you notice blood coming to the outside. You typically cannot get pregnant at this point of your monthly cycle. You will have to wait for the next ovulation period to take place.

This pattern is repeated over and over again during the childbearing years until you become pregnant or reach the menopause. When you get pregnant, the lining in you uterus is not lost, but rather grows with the baby turning into placenta, which nourishes the baby for nine months.

When you eventually reach menopause, you can no longer get pregnant owing to the fact that eggs are not being released anymore. Additionally, the monthly lining is not being prepared any further.

The best way to know for sure when exactly you can get pregnant is to pay attention to your monthly cycle. Knowing your ovulation is all the information you will ever need in order to know when you can get pregnant.
